Since their ancestral lands were taken to create a national park, the Batwa have been in dire need of resources to purchase land, seeds and farming implements, become educated and learn skills to enable them to support themselves. The Batwa are so severely marginalized that the mortality rate for children under 5 approaches 50%! Your donations could literally save lives.

Sponsor a Child—Act and Empower can enable you personally to sponsor a specific child in Uganda who has no other means of support. You can send that child to school, receive photos and updates specific to that child, and can follow the child's transformation for years to come.

Design a Project—Develop and manage a fundraising project, such as a car wash, contest, community drive, bake sale or other activity to generate support for the project of your choice.

Rent or Purchase a Plot of Land—Land is the key to enabling a family in Uganda to support itself. With no education, training or property, a family often has no means of support. Land is key to empowering a family to support itself.

Fund a Tutor or Enterprise Class—The Batwa are keen on learning skills, such as tailoring or animal husbandry. Your support can pay for an adult education class, start a goat-rearing program or hire a seamstress to travel among Batwa communities to teach sewing skills. Or come up with your own idea and work with us and our local representatives to design a class or project to improve lives.

Fund an Investigation—The Batwa are frequently subject to mistreatment or discrimination at the hands of their neighbors. Even violent crimes are often ignored in the absence of an advocate pressing for redress. You could fund an attorney, investigator or other advocate to ensure that the victim of a crime has a voice and a means of future protection.
